Mainland China has recently eased visa rules for non-Chinese Hong Kong residents, offering a more straightforward application process for 5-year multiple-entry visas allowing up to six-month stays at a time. Step-by-Step Guide for Hong Kong Residents:

  1. Visit the Chinese Visa Application Service Center Website: Access here.

  2. Create an Account and Fill Out the Forms: Provide necessary details and documents.

  3. Prepare Required Documents: Gather 2 recent photos of yourself, a copy of your passport, your Hong Kong ID, your Hong Kong visa and if you have any recent China visa’s bring a copy of those, along with your original passport.

  4. Submission: Head to either the Visa For China Centre (20/F, Capital Center, 151 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai) or one of the CTSHK Offices (less busy than Visa For China Centre) to submit the form and documents. For more information, you can also visit China Travel Service (H.K.) Ltd.

  5. Passport Submission: Be prepared to leave your passport for approximately 7-10 days for processing, unless you pay extra for expedited services.

  6. Collection: Retrieve your passport once the visa is ready or opt for a delivery service.

In a significant move, Mainland authorities have introduced a 5-year travel permit for non-Chinese permanent residents of Hong Kong and Macau. This permit allows multiple entries to the mainland for short-term purposes, including investment, tourism, business, and family visits.   • For Non-Permanent Residents: $2950 HKD for a 5-year multi-entry visa (normal service).

  • For Permanent Residents: $260 HKD for the 5-year multi entry Mainland Travel Permit.
