Mansell Triumphs at the Porsche Singapore Classic for Maiden DP World Tour Title
In a thrilling conclusion to the weather-shortened Porsche Singapore Classic, Richard Mansell secured his maiden DP World Tour title with a clutch birdie on the final hole, edging out competitors by one shot. The tournament, part of the Asian Swing and the 13th event in the Race to Dubai series, took place at the picturesque Laguna National Golf Resort Club in Singapore, boasting a prize fund of $2.5 million.
Reduced to 54 holes due to Thursday’s rain disruptions, Mansell entered the final round just one stroke behind the leaders. Starting steadily with three consecutive pars, the Englishman quickly surged ahead, sinking five consecutive birdies from the fourth hole. By the turn, he held a two-shot lead, showcasing both skill and composure under pressure.
The back nine proved more challenging as Mansell faced stiff competition. However, true to form, he saved his best for last. On the par-five 18th, Mansell executed a remarkable two-putt from over 100 feet, sealing his victory with a closing 66 and finishing at 16 under par. This heroic effort denied early clubhouse leader Keita Nakajima, who carded a flawless 65, a chance at a playoff.
Nakajima ended solo second at 15 under, followed by Tom McKibbin and Adrien Saddier, tied for third at 14 under. For Mansell, this win marks a significant milestone, especially with new caddie David Kenny contributing crucial guidance throughout the tournament.
Reflecting on his journey, Mansell shared heartfelt sentiments: “What a feeling… It makes those near-misses worth it.” He acknowledged past struggles where self-doubt crept in, leading him to seek changes rather than staying true to his game. Over the past six months, patience and support from loved ones, particularly his wife Ellie, played pivotal roles in his resurgence.
“This is amazing,” Mansell continued, expressing gratitude towards family and supporters who never lost faith even when he did. Offering advice to aspiring golfers, he emphasized perseverance: “That moment's the most fulfilling thing in the world and it's worth it.”
With this victory, Mansell not only claims top honours at the Porsche Singapore Classic but also ascends to the pinnacle of the Asian Swing Rankings, setting the stage for future successes on the tour.
