The Masters: Rain Check for Round 2 & 3
It was a disrupted round 2 & 3 at the Masters with the weather causing play to be suspended on Friday and restarted Saturday morning. There were reports of two trees falling down on the course, but luckily no injuries. Below we have summarised Round 2 as well as updated you with the happenings so far of Round 3.
Round 2
Play was suspended on Friday at 3:07 p.m. ET due to inclement weather conditions and resumed at 3:28 p.m., ending a delay of 21 minutes. Play was suspended for a second time due to inclement weather conditions at 4:22 p.m. ET and did not resume Friday (39 players left to complete the round). The second round resumed at 8 a.m. Saturday and was completed at 10:51 a.m (10:51 p.m. HKT).
Four-time major champion Brooks Koepka recorded a 36-hole total of 132 (-12), tied for third-lowest in tournament history, and holds his fourth career 36-hole lead/co-lead in major championships
FedExCup leader and first-round co-leader Jon Rahm was two strokes back after carding his career-low 36-hole score in a major (134)
Sam Bennett, the 2022 U.S. Amateur champion recorded the second-lowest 36-hole score (8-under 136) by an amateur in tournament history.
82-time PGA TOUR winner and five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods made the cut on the number and ties the record for most consecutive cuts made in tournament history with 23, joining Gary Player and Fred Couples.
Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas miss the cut in the same major championship for the first time. Rory cards a second-round 77 and misses the cut at the Masters for the third time (2010, 2021, 2023). Justin makes bogey at Nos. 17 and 18 to miss the cut by a stroke his first missed cut in eight starts at the Masters.
Defending champion and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler cards a 3-over 75, snapping a streak of seven consecutive under-par scores at the Masters; Scheffler’s 75 is his highest score in a round on TOUR since the second round of the 2022 PGA Championship (75).
1992 Masters champion Fred Couples (T40/+1) becomes the oldest player in tournament history to make the cut at age 63 years, 6 months, 5 days; the record was previously held by Bernhard Langer (63 years, 2 months, 18 days in 2020).
Round 3
The third round was suspended for the remainder of the day at 3:15 p.m. ET due to inclement weather conditions. The third round will resume Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET. (8:30 p.m. HKT). No players have completed the third round.
Four-time major champion Brooks Koepka holds a four-stroke lead over FedExCup leader Jon Rahm
Koepka has not made a bogey in his last 29 holes and faces an 11-foot, 3-inch par putt on No. 7 when play resumes. Jon Rahm has a 9-foot birdie putt.
Patrick Cantlay (thru 13), Matt Fitzpatrick (thru 11) and Sungjae Im (thru 7*) are tied for lowest score in the third round (-3).
Tiger Woods makes back-to-back double bogeys for the first time in his career at the Masters (Nos. 16 and 17; final two holes completed before the suspension of the round).
The final round is scheduled to begin Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET (twosomes off Nos. 1 and 10).
