TAICHI KHO INSPIRES LOCALS AT SJM MACAO OPEN COMMUNITY EVENT
In the lead-up to the SJM Macao Open 2024, title-sponsored and co-organised by SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”), locals were treated to an unforgettable experience during a special community event featuring rising Hong Kong, China golf star Taichi Kho. Held at the Ponte 16 Outdoor Plaza on 28th September 2024, the event offered the local community a rare opportunity to hear from Kho and engage with one of the region’s most exciting young talents.
Kho, who made the history books twice, as the first player from Hong Kong to win an Asian Tour event and to win a gold medal in the 2023 Asian Games, conducted a 30-minute session where he shared insights from his professional journey and demonstrated key putting techniques. During the showcase, Kho invited audience members to join him on stage and try their hand at putting under his expert guidance. The interactive moment excited the crowd, many of whom were experiencing golf up close for the first time.
Reflecting on the event, Kho said: “It was great to engage with the local community today and share my love for the game. I hope my story and the advice I shared today will motivate others to pick up a club and try the game. Golf has given me so much, and it’s a privilege to give back to the community this way.”
The community event aligns with SJM’s mission to make golf accessible to the wider public and nurture the next generation of players. By offering these firsthand experiences with top athletes like Kho, SJM is working to raise interest in the sport throughout Macao. The event was also attended by Ms Porcia Leung, Senior Vice President of Corporate Brand Development and Marketing of SJM and Mr Rob James, Vice President, Operations of International Management Group (“IMG’’).
This year’s SJM Macao Open, held at the Macau Golf and Country Club from 10 to 13 October, takes place in a significant year for Macao, marking the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR. Co-organised with the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the event continues to highlight Macao’s status as a “City of Sport,” promoting the integration of “Sports + Tourism” and encouraging greater public participation in golf.
