Hong Kong Champion Garcia Clicks into Gear Ahead of International Series Macau Presented by Wynn
(Wynn Resorts Macau, China, 11 March 2025) Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia showed he is still a dominant force in the game by claiming victory at LIV Golf Hong Kong, just under two weeks out from International Series Macau presented by Wynn.
The Spaniard, who won the famous green jacket at Augusta National back in 2017, carded a seven-under final round at Hong Kong Golf Club, giving the Fireballs GC captain an 18-under three-round total and a three-shot margin over nearest challenger Dean Burmester of Stinger GC.
That has lifted the Ryder Cup star to the top of the individual standings after a strong start to the season that includes a T6 at LIV Golf Riyadh and a T18 at LIV Golf Adelaide.
His in-form Fireballs GC team are also top of the team standings after two consecutive team wins in Australia and Hong Kong, and all four will be in the field for the elevated Asian Tour tournament at Macau Golf and Country Club from March 20-23, with Abraham Ancer, David Puig and Luis Masaveu all confirmed.
Veteran Garcia, who finished T21 on 14 under at last season’s event in Macau, is delighted with his form and fitness as he prepares to play consecutive weeks at LIV Golf Singapore and International Series Macau presented by Wynn.
The 45-year-old said: “To be totally honest, I love the game; that's the most important thing. I love competing. I feel like I've been very blessed with a body that doesn't seem to get injured, which obviously helps because it allows for constant momentum. I don't have to take big breaks for recovery. I like staying active.
“Obviously I've been doing a lot of good work mentally and just kind of trying to see things a little bit different, trying to make sure that I love myself a lot more on the course, even when I don't hit a good shot or something like that, and that obviously has helped me a lot.”
Young Spaniard Puig, the 2023 International Series Singapore champion, will be hoping to go one better than last year, when he lost in a dramatic play-off to John Catlin after posting a final round 60 to close the gap on the American. He is also in good form, finishing T18 in Hong Kong.
Other confirmed players heading into the tournament in decent form include 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed, with the 4Aces GC star finishing T10 at the weekend, and Graeme McDowell, the former US Open champion who finished T12 alongside Garcia’s Mexican team-mate Ancer.
Australian Lucas Herbert finished fourth outright, and the Ripper GC player could be one to watch after finishing third in Macau last year, two behind Puig and Catlin. American Peter Uihlein, a two-time winner last year on The International Series in England and Qatar, could also be a dark horse – the Range Goats GC player finished tied sixth in Hong Kong.
International Series Macau presented by Wynn takes place from 20-23 March. Entry is free for all four days, please register for tickets at:
