Ginnie Ding: A Rising Star Representing Hong Kong on the Ladies European Tour

Hong Kong’s Ginnie Ding is making waves in the world of professional golf, and her journey is as inspiring as it is impressive. From her early days swinging clubs at Fanling to securing her Ladies European Tour (LET) card, Ginnie’s story is one of perseverance, passion, and pride. In this exclusive interview, she shares her journey, her goals, and what it means to represent Hong Kong on the global stage.

From Fanling to the World Stage

Ginnie’s love for golf began at the tender age of four. Growing up in Hong Kong, she dabbled in various sports, but golf quickly became her true calling. “I loved the game, but it was also about the friendships I made and how it became a family sport,” she recalls. Joining the Hong Kong Golf Association at age four and earning a spot on the national team by 14, Ginnie’s early years were spent honing her skills on the competitive junior circuit, both locally and internationally.

Playing at Fanling, one of Hong Kong’s most prestigious golf courses, left a lasting impression on her. “I remember playing at Fanling meant a really fun and challenging round with my friends, so I was always excited to play,” she says. “The Hong Kong Golf Club has top-quality courses, so I was blessed and spoiled growing up with access to such amazing facilities.”

Securing the LET Card: A Dream Realized

Earning her full 2025 LET card was a monumental achievement for Ginnie, but the road to get there was anything but easy. “2024 was a long and tough year for me,” she admits. “I was coming off a great college senior spring but had no time to rest and had a hard time adjusting to professional golf life in the US.” After a challenging LPGA Q-School run, Ginnie decided to pivot to the LET, a decision that ultimately paid off.

Reflecting on the Q-School process, Ginnie highlights the physical toll it took on her. “The most challenging part for me was the physical aspect. I had a brief break from LPGA Q-School to the LET Q-School, but even then, I had a hard time physically, especially when the tournament itself was two weeks long, including Pre-Qualifying.” Yet, her determination never wavered. “I’m happy that I never gave up this year,” she says with pride.

Preparing for the Lalla Meryem Cup

As Ginnie gears up for her first LET event, the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco, she’s focused on staying true to her routine. “I’m focusing on my usual routine: building confidence in my ball-striking, hitting fairways, and gaining my touch back around and on the greens,” she explains.

Her goals for the tournament reflect her grounded approach. “My goal for my first season tournament is to try and learn from the people around me and not take myself too seriously,” she says. “Of course, I am playing to win, but with that comes learning and taking it all in during the process.”

Representing Hong Kong with Pride

For Ginnie, representing Hong Kong on the LET is a profound honor. “Being able to rep HK on the LET is huge for me,” she says. “I have always been proud to be from Hong Kong, and I hope I can bring a bigger community and following into golf, especially women’s golf, in Hong Kong.”

She’s also deeply grateful for the support she’s received from her home city. “It’s amazing to know that I have people in Hong Kong supporting me throughout my journey, and that is something I don’t take for granted,” she adds.

Ginnie hopes to inspire the next generation of golfers in Hong Kong by showing that the path to success, while challenging, is worth it. “I want to just try and play my best and give the best attitude I can this year,” she says. “Hopefully, this will translate off the course as well, and I want to inspire young players to be ambitious but also grateful at the same time. I want to be an example for players who are struggling with the transition into competitive golf or starting to make their way up the chain and show that the process is hard, but well worth it.”

Ginnie’s Dream Foursome and Pre-Tournament Rituals

When asked about her dream golf foursome, Ginnie’s choices reflect her admiration for diverse playing styles and personalities. “Honestly, I would love to play with Nelly Korda, Inbee Park, and Bryson DeChambeau,”. “I think it would be a hilarious group, and I just want to see how differently they all play golf, but still at such a high level. I would love to take bits of each of their game.”

As for pre-tournament rituals, Ginnie keeps it simple yet consistent. “I don’t have any superstitions, but I have been listening to the same playlist every warm-up session since high school,” she reveals. “It’s a way for me to kind of have something to hum or have stuck in my head throughout the round if I get bored or need to take my mind off of something.”

A Bright Future Ahead

Ginnie Ding’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and passion. As she prepares to take on the Lalla Meryem Cup and the 2025 LET season, she carries with her the hopes and support of Hong Kong. Her story is not just about golf; it’s about inspiring others to chase their dreams, no matter how challenging the path may be.
